Brush Wellman Seeks Speaking Engagements

New Beryllium Production Facility Update
On July 14, 2008, Brush Wellman celebrated the groundbreaking of its new $90.4 million beryllium production plant at the Elmore manufacturing facility. Hundreds of invited guests representing employees and community leaders were present to commemorate the occasion.
The keynote speeches were delivered by Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur; President, CEO and Chairman Richard Hipple of Brush Engineered Materials Inc.; and Michael Anderson, President of Brush Wellman Inc.
Brush Wellman has hired Middough Inc. as the construction management firm to assist in the construction of the new plant. Site and underground utilities preparation activities are expected to begin in mid-September of this year.

New Appointments at Brush Wellman
Brush Wellman announced recently two new appointments within its organization.
Brush Wellman's Board of Directors appointed Michael D. Anderson to President of Brush Wellman Inc. Mr. Anderson will retain his responsibility as President of Beryllium Products, a Brush Wellman business unit. He will continue to be based in Cleveland. Mr. Anderson joined Brush Wellman in July, 1974. In his tenure with the Company, he has held technical, sales and senior management positions.
In addition, Brush Wellman announced that Mark M. Comerford has been appointed President of Alloy Products. Mr. Comerford joined Brush Wellman as Managing Director of Brush Wellman (Singapore) Pte Ltd. in 1998. He transferred to Cleveland in 2001 to assume the role of Vice President, Sales - Strip Products with the Alloy Products group. Since March 2006 he has served as President of Brush International, Inc.

Brush Wellman Honored for Safety Partnership
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and Brush Wellman Inc. (BWI) were honored recently for their research partnership. Over the past 10 years NIOSH and BWI have worked together to conduct research and develop, test and communicate a new model for working safely with beryllium and beryllium-containing materials.
The National Occupational Research Agenda (NORA) Partnering Award for Worker Health and Safety was presented to a group of NIOSH and Brush Wellman representatives at the sixth biannual NORA Symposium in Denver. Unveiled in 1996 by NIOSH, NORA is a partnership program to stimulate innovative research and improved practices to better protect workers.
Present in Denver to accept the award on behalf of Brush Wellman were Kelly R. Fowler, a Lead Operator in the Beryllium Products Powdering unit of the Elmore plant and Dr. David C. Deubner, MD, Vice President, Occupational and Environmental Medicine, Brush Wellman Inc.
