Brush Wellman Seeks Speaking Engagements
If you have a community group that is looking for a speaker or presentation in 2008, one call to Brush Wellman is all you need to help complete your organization's program schedule. The company has formed a speaker's bureau that is ready to speak to local community groups, big and small. Talks will cover topics such as beryllium and the James Webb Space Telescope, community impact and the company's environmental committment. United Way in Ottawa Co. Exceeds Goal
The 2007 Ottawa Co. United Way campaign raised $323,832, exceeding the $311,000 goal by nearly $13,000. Support for this campaign came in part through a number of successful workplace campaigns. One such campaign was Brush Wellman's Elmore plant, which contributed nearly 11% more than last year, for a total of $75,451, representing just over 23% of the total contributions for all of Ottawa Co.

2008 Charles F. Brush III Scholarship Winners
The Brush Engineered Materials Inc. Cleveland Scholarship Committee has named the 2008 winners of the Charles F. Brush III Scholarship. Of the five recipients named, two were the children of employees at the Brush Wellman Elmore plant. Local winners were as follows:
Kelsey Giesler, daughter of Wiiliam Giesler of Elmore, and Amy Shearon, daughter of Sandra Shearon of Oak Harbor.

Blood Drive a Success
The April 16 American Red Cross blood drive supported by Brush Wellman and its employees was a success. Received were 92 single donations and seven double donations. Many friends and neighbors gave their support as well -- truly a great community effort.
Many thanks to the American Red Cross for their service to the communities and the people they serve, to the many friends and neighbors who diligently and faithfully support these blood drives, and to the many Brush Wellman employees and the Elmore Plant management for supporting this critical community service and need.

New Beryllium Production Facility Update
There has been a new development on the new beryllium production facility in Elmore. The President recently signed legisation that ensures that the project will be fully funded. Brush Wellman worked with Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, the late Paul Gillmor and Rob Bishop (D-Utah) to secure funding for the project, which is slated to begin construction in the summer or early fall of 2008.

Organization Changes at Elmore Plant
Keith Smith, who has been serving as Elmore plant manager, has been promoted to Vice President of Operations for Beryllium Products. This is a great opportunity for Keith, who will continue to be based at the Elmore plant.
Randy Drummond has been chosen to replace Keith as plant manager. Originally from Illinois, Randy has been with Brush Wellman since 2002. Randy is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Prior to working for Brush Wellman, Randy worked for 20 years in a steel mill in Central Illinois where he lived in a small town much like Elmore. Today, Randy lives near Curtice, Ohio.
Randy understands the important role Brush Wellman plays in the community, and he is committed to ensuring that Brush Wellman continues to be a good employer and a good neighbor.

Brush Wellman R&D to Move to Elmore
In a new development for Brush Wellman, the company has announced that its research and development operation will move from the corporate headquarters in Cleveland to Elmore plant.
The moves creates 12 new jobs in Ottawa County, and puts Elmore at the forefront of the effort to find new and innovative products for Brush Wellman.

Employment Callbacks at Brush Wellman
Due to increased production at the Elmore plant, the company recently called back all employees who were part of a layoff last year. As of early February, the company no longer had any employees who were on layoff.

Senator Wagoner Visits the Elmore Plant
State Senator Mark Wagoner visited the Elmore plant recently meeting with members of Brush Wellman's plant and corporate staff.
Senator Wagoner was given an overview of the company, the plant operations and the company's support of and economic contribution to the local community.
The Senator and company representatives also discussed the issue of the deregulation of the electricity industry and its potential impact to businesses and residents in the state.

Brush Holds Fishing Derby
On May 3rd, the Brush Elmore plant held its annual fishing derby at the Brush Fishing Pond. Brush employees and retirees along with their families enjoyed the event which included casting classes and fishing education, and free fishing rods, tackle and bait for children ages 3-16.
A cookout was also a feature of the event along with cash prizes awarded to the various age groups of children for the largest fish caught, the most fish caught and for the largest trout taken.
The event was a success with about 65 children attending along with their families.
